Banana Republic’s Mad Men Collection

I just found out that Mad Men’s Emmy-winning costume designer Janie Bryant produced a capsule collection for Banana Republic. There’s almost 65 pieces in the collection, wowee. Here’s a quote from Banana Republic’s Creative Director, Simon Kneen:

Working with Janie to gain a true understanding of the Mad Men look and feel was a delight. Janie was instrumental in helping us achieve the series aesthetic and standard of authenticity with this capsule collection, offering sketches, her own inspirations and actual artifacts from the production set to help inspire the Mad Men within all of us.

  1. Just as a heads up, the Mad Men collection is at sale at all BRs — but only a few BRs carried a larger collection of it (I work at BR at Lenox in Atlanta, and we carried the full women’s line and part of the men’s). If you know what you want, though, you can call the online customer service number & get them to order it for you from any store in the US! My favorite is the trench!

  2. I saw these and kinda cried a little (not really, but you get the point). One of the reasons I love Mad Men is Joan Holloway–she’s tall and curvy and REAL. None of these styles reflect that ESPECIALLY since anemic looking models were chosen to model the clothes.

  3. Yes, I was going to say the same thing. The models are all to thin to pull these styles off. Women had curves back then and the average size was much bigger than today.
