Artist Charles Sheldon’s October 1927 Photoplay cover illustration of film actress Dolores Costello in a bright yellow cloche drew me in! I go gaga for vintage fashion and illustration. Your Photoplay image led me to research that brought to mind the new silent film, “The Artist”, directed by Jean Hazanavicius.
Like the main character in “The Artist”, Dolores Costello had to make the transition from silent film to “the talkies”. Coincidentally, Dolores – Sheldon’s muse in the yellow hat there on Photoplay – is Drew Barrymore’s grandmother.

Love the cheery bright yellow images – especially the yellow cloche hat. My daughter and I recently attended the electronic and synthesizer – powered Moogfest music festival and you can see her wearing a cloche similar to Costello’s at my Toile La La blog: sewatoile.blogspot.com
