Was looking at all the lovely hats for sale in my shop and thought they were worthy of a post of their own. So many different styles and materials and textures. The hot pink 50s topper is so bright and cheery and the 40s velour number with the bow is just amazing!
I have been a fan of UK based for a while now. Stunning shoes with styles so reminiscent of the 30s, 40s and 50s. Here are my favourites for the coming European season. Here are my favs. They all have a very 1930s feel about them. Enjoy.
Hi all. It’s been a little while since I blogged, but rest assured I am BACK! Here are few things that I added to my Etsy shop last week for the 20s and 30s lovers. The first dress is stunning! The geometric shapes and fagoting are superb. The second dress is also lovely, and in a rare larger size.
Patty Andrews, the last surviving member of swing-era vocal group the Andrews Sisters (and the center sister in the photo below), died today of natural causes. She was 94. A beautiful lady with a golden voice.
‘Bounce Me Brother With a Solid Four’ will always be my fav of their songs. Thought I’d post the clip here. Not the mention that we get to see Jewel McGowan and Dean Collins dance.
Hi all, I recently had a 10% off sale for Australia Day in my Etsy store, but I have decided to extend it until the end of January. The code is KOALA for those interested.
Just had to share some of my favs from my Pintrest board. So many of these are just beyond words! I wish that I could have many of them reproduced to wear now.
For all my readers that are fans of Art Deco design and the fashion 1920s and 30s, I have several boards full of my favourite visual collections over at Pinterest that I add to on a daily basis. You are welcome to follow me there also. Enjoy
For all the ladies who adore 1940s style, look at this amazing early 40s set that I found recently! A rare find indeed and it is in mint condition. This set has a bolero tie top and a pair of wide, high-waisted pants with gorgeous embroidery. Very similar to the 1940s sewing shown pattern below.
If you are interested, this item is for sale in my Esty store. Just click on any of the pics and it will link you there
Well, if you are Downton Abbey fan, you will no doubt have watched the series 3 Xmas Special by now (as I have), and I won’t give away any spoilers re the storyline here. BUT, I will however share some of the delightful 1920s fashions. I think that Lady Edith sported the best garb in this ep, along with an amazing cocoon coat worn by Lady Grantham.
Happy New Year everyone! Thought I’d share what has just gone into the Etsy store today with you and what will be coming up; 1940s Military Buddies sweetheart pin, 1950s silk men’s tie, 1960s sneakers, ladies coat and men’s tie and a 1930s velvet scarf. I a bunch of 60s gloves and ties to wardrobe for the US show ‘Vegas’. Keeping an eye out for those when I watch
And coming up in the next I will be adding a 1920s men’s evening scarf, a sheer 1930s evening gown, an unworn 1940s sateen bolero shirt and wide pants set and a puff sleeved 50s top. Enjoy!
I just wanted to wish our readers all the best for the holiday season and a wonderful New Year! And I will have lot’s more vintage goodness for you in 2013!!
I stumbled across the site for The Prohibition Clothing Company the other day via my friend, the Vintage Baroness. A great online store for men who love to sport a classic look. The PCC have some very dapper accessories too, and I must say that it is refreshing to see more and more vintage-styled outlets popping up all over the world to offer something more than just mainstream fashion. Classic style never dates! Seems they also have a Made to order Service too and I like the web-page design. Here is what the owner has to say (taken form the site):
“The Original Prohibition Clothing Company was born out of my love for classic tailoring, the storied history of America during the 1930’s and 1940’s, and a desire to create timeless elements of style. Elegant and sporty, we offer a unique and individualized approach to dressing that is sophisticated, romantic and unusually appealing. Iconic vintage pieces are delicately reworked to be both modern and nostalgic. Unlike some fashion companies, who reinvent their aesthetic every year, we offer a consistent and compelling vision that allows our customer to build a wardrobe of enduring pieces. Through partnership with select factories and artisans, we strive to produce excellent products, with minimal waste and a high level of respect for all of our partners. These considered garments, inspired by our collective history, are perfect for making a little history of your own.”
They have hats and caps, back-belted jackets, trousers, plus-fours, shirts, vests, bow-ties and some great stuff like a leather book strap and vintage style tote bag. You can check out The Prohibition Clothing Company’s wares here:
I’ve been a little bit slack at posting the new shop finds, been very busy lately. But, as promised, here ar few of the beauties I have added there of late. A 20s dress and magazine, 30s suit set, a few 40s dresses and shoes, 40s linen blouse, deadstock gloves and some handbags and a 50s swing coat Enjoy!
Back in August this year, Lisa Ho (a prominent Australian fashion designer) auctioned off her HUGE vintage clothing collection, which consisted of 100s of garments predominantly from the 1920s and 30s. Racks and racks of carefully organised items were for sale along with some of the most beautiful 20s beaded dresses I have even seen! I am happy to say that two of my favourite fellow bloggers in the Aussie vintage scene were there to bid for (and win) some of these beauties.
I have included just a small selection of what is featured in the online catalogue. You can find the rest at Mossgreen Auctions. My favourites are the yellow dress (snapped up by my Sydney friend Inger), both the pink and the black coats in the second line of pics, the 30s red gown and the bias cut white 30s dress. All just stunning! I wish I could have been there to go through all though racks of 30s silk gowns.
I have been a fan of UK based for a while now. Stunning shoes with styles so reminiscent of the 30s, 40s and 50s. Here are my favourites for the coming European season. I love the ‘Boston’ in green and wish I could have a pair right now! Miss L Fire, also have a one of the coolest websites around so check them out. The A/W 12 collection is shown at the moment. Enjoy!
I found a bunch of great things for my Etsy store at a huge antique fair on the weekend, from 1950s lucite hair clips to an amazing satin 1930s gown. Here is a wee sample. They are all linked back to the shop if you are interested.
Check out this awesome collection of men’s swimming trunks from the 1920s to the 40s from blog. Interestingly they range in colours from black to yellow but there seems to be a preference for the darker colour choices. Most were made from wool with a canvas belt to keep them from sagging and falling off once heavy with water and many have a little coin pocket included in the design.
