Here’s a few quick pics of me in Avalon (yes, like the song) on Catalina Island, for the Catalina Jazz Dance Festival in November 2010. The first is on the ferry over with the Casino Ballroom in the background, and the second with Miss Catalina 2010, on the slab. Round sunglasses are Top Shop, the aviator jacket is Zara, the dress is vintage 1950s from Eons in Pittsburgh, the yellow scarf from Thriftique in Pittsburgh, the cream scarf from a vintage market in Paris. I’m going back to the 2011 festival for sure! Beautiful weather, great bands, and the most beautiful ballroom I’ve ever been in in my life. And this time I’m bringing a vintage bathing suit and I’m going to strut my stuff for the Miss Catalina contest. Come on ladies, who else is in?
Ashley Greene is rocking the spring’s hot lingerie trend in a gorgeous Antonio Berardi dress. I haven’t seen photos of Ashley looking quite this sexy before. What a starlet she has become. Va-va-voom! .

Categories: Celebrities, Events & FestivalsMy favorites from the Hermes Fall 2010 ready-to-wear show. Plenty of lady fops and dandies, with leather replacing tweeds in a mildly fetish twist. Like British super-heroines in some post-apocalyptic London… very Avengers. These women clearly need to be driving . Animal print umbrellas, pocket watches, leather gloves, bowler hats and netting veils, what’s not to like?
So what’s rockin’ the wardrobes of Lindy Hoppers right now? Here’s a glimpse at the styles seen at the Rock That Swing Festival in Munich, Germany a few weeks ago. Classes by day, dancing and shows by night. Rocking my socks off with their ensembles, as usual: Laura Keat & Jeremy Otth, Vincenzo Fesi & Isabella Gregorio, Nicole Rochelle, Moe Sakan, Pontus Persson, Max Pitruzella, Remy Kouame, William Mauvais, Jessica Lennartson and mi amor Juan Villafane. Here’s another.
Angel Adoree of the , has also put together a DIY picnic basket for under £10 that can serve four.
“The basket is all about stepping back in time with a contemporary twist,” explains Adoree. “My generation have forgotten the art of the simple life. Baking something from scratch is easy, healthy and so rewarding, not to mention cheap. This is why I’ve added a few classic items to the picnic that are easy to make and visually look exciting.”
The basket features homemade sweet and savoury scones, savoury cupcakes, clotted cream and strawberry preserve, red pesto and cold green jasmine tea with berries: simply make one cup of jasmine tea with a large tablespoon of leaves, add sugar to taste and then add to a large bottle of filtered water then place in the fridge or freezer until required. Pour and add the berries for extra sweetness. “Picnics can be cheap – it’s just a matter of planning,” says Adoree.
Categories: Events & FestivalsSome pics of the über cool LA swing crew, which I Facebook-swiped from Chandrae Roettig. I spy some buddies of ours, like Minn Vo, Nick Williams and Katie Anderson. Looking awesome, you guys!

From November 21-25, is currently having a sale on just about everything. If at any point in your life you feel like you should take up sewing, crafting, or scrap booking, head on down to Joann’s and enjoy the savings!!
Yesterday my mum and I headed to the store to pick up some knick-knacks and doo-dads and we saw that patterns were on sale. On sale people!!! “Now why is this a big deal?” you ask. Well, if you haven’t bought patterns before, you might not know that those mighty pieces of paper can cost US$30 a pop or more. I was able to snag some great costume patterns for U$1.99-3.99. Needless to say I went hog-wild and bought 10 patterns because someday I might “need” to make a Victorian gown, or gloves, or vintage hats. Super cool bonus fact: there are Vintage Vogue patterns there as well!!
So go, find patterns, beautiful buttons, tremendous trims, and fantastic fabric, and have a wonderful end of November!! Click

From the :
“Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra invites you to join us on this hidden gem just off the southeastern tip of Manhattan, nestled in the heart of majestic New York Harbor. Under a shady grove of centuries-old trees, caressed by fresh sea air, a sprawling green surrounded by historic officers’ quarters and 18th century naval ramparts becomes the setting for a true Gatsby affair. A recession-friendly $5 admission gives you access to one of the Fall’s most magnificent celebrations. Widely anticipated by flappers, sporting gents and tiny tots alike, this event has been featured and reviewed consistently by The New York Times and the Sartorialist.
A wide array of music, food & drink, activities, games and contests are open for all ages to enjoy:
- A delightful variety of refreshing cocktails will be served by St. Germain.
- Picnickers are welcomed and encouraged.
- Tasty sandwiches and BBQ provided by Cercle Rouge.
- Authentic ’78 records from the 1920s played on a phonograph provided by Michael Cumella of WFMU’s Antique Phonograph Music Program.
