Vintage colour swatch: Rambunctious red

So, I thought I would do something fun and write a regular post every 2 weeks that focuses on a particular colour. I will also include pics showing all sorts of vintage fashion items that were produced in varying shades of that colour, hopefully to inspire some new outfit combinations in the future and some possible purchases.

Red: So many shades and varities. Crimson, fire-engine, scarlet, vermillion, cardinal, blood-red and the list goes on. I chose red today because it is a courageous colour and I have needed a lot of that in the last few days. I usually wear red when I am feeling confident and happy. Here are some amazing examples of red vintage/vintage inspired items. How gorgeous are the 30′s bias gowns – stunning! The black and red cloche is also breathtaking.

Michelle’s Etsy picks of the week – shoes

Hi all. I apologise for my lack of posts this past week, but I have been pre-occupied with some personal matters, so felt very uninspired. But, I am back with some pics of some of my current Etsy favourites this week. Today I am focussing on shoes from the 20s, 30s and 40s and there some amazing examples for sale at the moment.

I do adore shoes from the mid to late 30s but find it somewhat difficult to obtain them in my size (8.5) so I am forever looking, looking. However, during my daily searches I always make a note of the beautiful examples I find so that I can show others. I hope you enjoy these lovelies…and maybe some of them will fit you.

Vintage colour swatch…yowza yellow

So, I thought I would do something fun and write a regular post every 2 weeks that focuses on a particular colour. I will also include pics showing all sorts of vintage fashion items that were produced in varying shades of that colour, hopefully to inspire some new outfit combinations in the future and some possible purchases.

Yellow: I chose yellow today because I was inpsired by a  superb pale buttery yellow, early 1940s dress in my collection, and funnily enough – a 40s handbag to match. Not a colour I would probably wear myself, but lovely nontheless.

In my mind, yellow clothing always screams warm weather and sunny days. So, since it is summer here in Perth, a yellow gathering of items it will be for this post :) And oh so many shades…from canary and lemon to mustard, pale yellow and daffodil! Have also included one modern item in this group…but it is very worthy of being here :)

Vintage colour swatch…burgundy beauties

So, I thought I would do something fun and start writing a regular post every 2 weeks that focuses on a particular colour. I will also include pics showing all sorts of vintage fashion items that were produced in varying shades of that colour, hopefully to inspire some new outfit combinations in the future. :)

Burgundy. It’s rich, dark, sensual and one of my favourite clothing colours, along with darker greens, browns, rusts, reds, black and navy. I’m not much of ‘bright colour’ girl (much to my father’s disgust…he always comments that I ‘wear too much black’) and I tend to accessorise with brighter pieces or wear a bright shirt with darker skirt/trousers etc. Burgundy usually screams winter and autumn to me but I do have items in cottons and linens in lighter shades and funnily enough; a pair of vintage suede burgundy lace up oxford shoes! Hope you enjoy this collection.

New Aris Allen oxford wingtips in white

Aris Allen have finally added a new mens shoe to their existing line. As dancers have seen, the white captoe is so very popular with male swing dancers the world over but I know a few guys  who have long wanted to see an all white shoe in a wingtip style  - and now here it is.

You can find them here www.dancestore.com/Aris-Allen-Mens-All-White-Wingtip-Oxford-Swing-Shoes/productinfo/140-WH/

Prada goes 1930s…

I was looking through a bunch of old vintage shoe ads that I have collected over the years and have always wished that a pair of these, my favourite amazingly colourful shoes from the 1930s, would turn up on ebay.  I have seen one or two pairs come up for auction in 12 years on ebay but they are so rare.

Then I came across these shoes by Prada from their summer collection, looking uncannily like the the shoes from the old Sears ad! They are a lot higher in the heel but definatley have a 1930s influence. Check them out!

Seychelles Shoes at Endless.com

I wore a pair of Seychelles “In With The New” pumps last weekend at Goodnight Sweetheart in the UK, that I bought at ModCloth.com and I adore them! I’ve only danced a little in them (I was just strutting around in them while I was judging the contest), but Lady of Balboa, Kate Hedin told me she has the same pair, and does dance in them. I’ve since found out you can get them cheaper on Endless.com (which you might have heard me rant about before – I love Endless because it’s free shipping in the US, and free return shipping if they don’t fit). I own a few pairs of Seychelles heels now (I bought the gold and black “Lauren” pumps a few months ago). They do glamorous pumps and Mary Janes with a vintage edge, but modern appeal. Here’s a selection on Endless.com:

Top Picks: Plasticland Shoes

A Quebecois buddy of mine, Alisha Ruiss, just tortured me with two emails in quick succession, with links to online stores where I want to buy EVERYTHING!! Oh no, Alisha, how could you do this to me? The first was Plasticland, an old favourite of mine, but I haven’t visited for a while, and was rather unaware of the current shoe collection. Swoon! Here are my top picks, and they’re all available right now, in the range of US$54 – $72. These shoes are a steal. They stock a few Stop Staring dresses as well, and they have some cute pencil skirts…

Louboutin, oh Louboutin!

Jo and I have been toying with the idea of buying Louboutin heels at LouboutinSale.com (one of the adverts that keeps popping up to tempt us on Facebook – damn Google and their smart targeted marketing!). These are my favourites on the site, all for less than $200! So cheap, are they knock-offs? Look like the real deal, I do wonder. Love that signature red sole! I mean, I spend $100-$200 a pop on dance shoes, would it really be so bad? Not that I could dance in these killer heels… oh, swoon, I want them! What do you think ladies?

Trend Spotting: Lonestar Championships

coloredkeds

Got a pair of colored Keds? There was a rainbow of Keds on display at this year’s Lonestar Championships in Austin, Texas (which, by the way, is a fab dance-hard weekend!)

wf31251 wf34029

You can get pretty much any color these days, or you can custom design your Keds at Zazzle.com. Cheap, cheerful, a good jack-of-all-trades dance sole (not too sticky, not too slick). Hmm, when I think of colored Keds I think of uber-cute Jeremy Otth from LA (left), or of Alain & Marie at last year’s ILHC, rockin’ out those matching yellow Keds (right)…
