Inspired by Dick Tracy era, Beckham illustrated that the new silhouette was still as much about structure as ever–but featured a slightly looser silhouette and drape. The contrast of light and dark and feminine and masculine were underlying motifs as she softened the shoulders while, for evening, went more daring with raw edges and asymmetric collars.

Rich neutrals set the groundwork for the lineup, peppered with such current colors as sanguine, emerald, graphite and antique gold. “Nerdy chic,” she explained of a series of draped crepe dresses. “That’s where my personal style is at.” Clever details peppered throughout included a classic grosgrain belt partially hidden as a corset to keep the waist solid or cut outs placed delicately under the arms just so.

A Forties-inspired rib jersey/wool twill drape skirt dress elegantly balanced the tension between top and bottom beautifully while a “little cloud dress” hand tacked and cut on a bias was a fine example of Beckham’s relentless pursuit of perfection.

If you’re a swing dancer, you’ll recognize some familiar faces strutting their stuff on the runway, and some of you may also know the mastermind behind the event, Lorraine O’Neal. A brief flashback to Anna Sui’s Spring 2008 ready-to-wear collection, since it was such a great moment. A 1940s silhouette with cinched waists and boxy shoulders, brought to short flirty skirts and dresses, pinafores and playsuits in bright colors and bold prints. And I love the strappy platform heels, worn with brightly colored socks – cute!

I normally hate it when designers sent cute retro designs down the runway, paired with mismatching hairstyles and makeup, but in this case the punky ‘dos were adorable and played up the fun attitude of the collection. Bobby soxers meet Harajuku girls…

Ahh, so much to love in this one. Clingy striped sweaters, waist belts, pencil skirts, retro disc fascinators, crystal-covered cats eye glasses, seamed Cuban heel stockings (even in purple!) and rhinestone-covered strappy platform heels. But most of all – happy, laughing, smiling, dancing models! How wonderful.

It’s  a Tim Burton meets fashion, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, and Sweeny Todd all rolled into one. I absolutely dig it. Men, take note! Mostly likely you won’t want to throw down that kind of money for your threads, but see if you can find something that looks like something from these pictures. And ladies, see if you can get your men in some of this!!
