Grace Coddington is in fact Vogue’s Creative Director, and is in charge of most of the fashion shoots. If you’re interested in her (and the almighty Anna Wintour) and Vogue in general, then you might want to check out the new documentary, The September Issue:

I haven’t seen it yet, but reviews are good, and it sounds like Grace Coddington is as much the star as Anna Wintour herself. In the New York Times, the director R.J. Cutler said, “[Anna] is cool, [Grace] is warm and languid,” he said. “Anna is all about ‘next,’ and Grace is most interested in a historical perspective on art and fashion.” Sounds like our kind of lady!

Swing Era Retouching – Yes, They Did It Back Then Too

Much like any fashion photograph today, Joan Crawford got the swing era equivalent of today’s digital airbrushing. Bye bye freckles, wrinkles, dark circles and brow furrows! The difference? This retouching was all done painstakingly by hand, and took around 6 hours. Click here to read more about Hollywood photographer-to-the-stars George Hurrell.

Grey Gardens (2009)

Grey Gardens starring Drew Barrymore as “Little” Edith Bouvier Beale and Jessica Lange as “Big” Edith Bouvier Beale was such a touching and bittersweet film; capturing the essence behind the 1975 documentary. Costume designer Cat Thomas had to span the 1920’s through the 1970’s and did so with a harmonious and humorous eye. Trying to dress characters that were based on true eccentrics~ without turning them in to caricatures~ is crucial not only to believability, but to building a relationship between the character herself and the viewer.

Alexander McQueen Mens F/W 08/09

Alexander McQueen’s menswear collection for fall/winter 08/09 is stupid-fresh; it’s amazing! It’s  a Tim Burton meets fashion, Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, and Sweeny Todd all rolled into one. I absolutely dig it. Men, take note! Mostly likely you won’t want to throw down that kind of money for your threads, but see if you can find something that looks like something from these pictures. And ladies, see if you can get your men in some of this!!
